I have not yet had much time to explore the possibilities of this style.  But I did play with the first pictures I took with my camera to find out what I could do with the software (Adobe PhotoDeluxe).  While you might look at this picture and think that I just went crazy with special effects, I did have a creative idea in mind.  I'll let you see the picture first, then I'll explain what I did and why.

This picture is of a friend and her husband.  The house they lived in at them time was accurately referred to as "The House of Insanity."  To enhance that complete chaos in the limited space of the photograph, I decided to negative reverse the whole image, something that could be done with regular film (if I knew how to print color).  But Digital gave me another option.  Before the negative reversal, I cut her out of the picture.   I didn't know her husband well, but I did know her, and to establish that difference, I cut her out and solarized her, then pasted her back in.  Then I reversed it.  The room and he both became darker (and bluish), while she returned to glowing but realistic color.  Finally, to give their flesh a little more color, I used a technique called "merge clouds" with a warmer color.  After all of that, I saw a smudge on the chair (probably from the flash) that I needed to remove.

The title is "Portrait of a Young Couple".  (If you have a better suggestion, email me. I'm not too thrilled with that title.)
