Picked our items. Grettir took a light bow, Matsuko a sling that can knock people back and over. Dizyk took a sword that only cuts living matter and swapped it to Parna for the light bow we got in the Bastion, while Parna took this neat battle cloak that can be both armor and a weapon. I took a crossbow you can load with a hundred bolts (odd to be using a crossbow again - don't think I've touched one since leaving the home cave), and we got Korenne to take the big backpack cannon.Left the Armory to cross the city towards the library. As we got near the center street we came up on another of the big demon guys pulling two huge carts of books and machinery, guarded by barghest in their goblinoid form. Set up an ambush on the second story and opened fire right when the demon passed by. Grettir and Dizyk took to the light bows right away, Korenn took a little longer to get the hang of the big cannon but when he did it took a big chunk right out of the demon. Matsuko and I tried to take out the barghest but one stepped a shorter path out and the other set a fire in our building then likely did the same.
Unfortunately the demon got away too - we had it about to go down and I think I could have taken it down but mistook how fast it was going to be able to react. A bad mistake. My mind was split thinking about the new weapons and the things on the carts and not one with my actions.
Went through the books quickly pulling out those that looked useful. Burned the rest. Better lost than in Emsariel's hands. Nothing there was from the closed shelves or the chained archive - must have moved this cart out before getting through the next defenses. Most of the stuff on the cart was teaching models and the like, but Matsuko says she found some useful dream stuff, also an odd glass sword. Set that cart on fire too for good measure.
And then I heard in the distance the city entrance we had come through explode.
Is not disaster - other ways out. Most are likely blocked, but if it comes to it we can fight our way out through the lower levels and the tunnels from there. And have no plans to leave without at least checking conditions at Library first. We're going to have to rest before we can do much more fighting - may not even get near Library until morning, or may try to find safe place to hole up but still keep an eye on what's happening there. If Library defenses hold against demons, may even be able to wait until they give up before moving in.
Priorities: power-pack recharge, anything about Keys (or is that just post-cataclysm... good to know either way). Sealing Gates and blocking all that damn teleporting - are never going to kill anyone if they keep skipping out before the deathblow. Silver Clan suspension-bridge designs and secrets of high-tensile cables - haven't passed any of the wider sections of the canal to see them but am remembering. Correllendor is all arch and truss, *that* would make a nice little niche industry. Even small-scale with common chain...
