The (DM's) Annals

This first adventure is mostly setting-establishment, and a chance for the characters to get to know each other, honestly. They've all come to town from three directions: Josh and Amy from the north, down along a major river; Justin and Peter north along the same river; Chaos has been in town for a while having come directly out of the mountains to the southeast. On entering the town, the two pairs came across a man on a wagon in the midst of a mob. The mob was led by an elf, whose anger was easily explained-- the wagon was being pulled by a centaur which the man had bound. He'd also clearly done something to the centaur, or else it would never have borne such treatment. The elf was the centaur's friend.

This is something of a red herring of an adventure, as much an excuse to get them together as anything. During the first session, they began fighting the wagoneer, who began casting spells and escaped northward, having proven himself rather stronger than first expected. The real deal is that this show of valor and strength from newcomers is going to draw interest from the townsfolk, who will approach the party (at the beginning of the next session) to help out with several problems: First, there is a pack of rabid wolves attacking an outlying community up the tributary river that runs through town, and the community wants defence while the diseas runs its course. Secondly, the tributary river has dried up, and this early in the summer, that's not only unusual but dangerous. The townsfolk suspect a small pack of goblins who live up near the source of the river, and who are usually only meddlesome, not actively malicious.
